Serine Abedi, AMFT

I obtained my M.A. in clinical psychology with an emphasis in MFT (Marriage and Family Therapy) from Azusa Pacific University. I earned my B.A. in psychology from California State University, Northridge.

During my graduate years, I worked at PUC CALS Charter Middle School & Early College High School, gaining experience with various mental illnesses. Upon graduation, I worked at Behavior Health Urgent Care Center, where I gained experience working with individuals struggling with life transitions, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and grief/loss.

I am currently working as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Anchor Counseling Group with young adults and millennials. I utilize various approaches and modalities based on the needs of each client, such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), psychodynamic, DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). I am trilingual (English, Armenian, and Farsi). I also provide Christian counseling upon request.

As Christopher Peterson stated, "if positive psychology teaches us anything, it is that all of us are a mixture of strengths and weaknesses." That is to say, it is not a sign of weakness to express our feelings and emotions. With that being said, I am dedicated to helping individuals from diverse backgrounds and strive to encourage growth in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Last but not least, understanding and accepting the complexity of the treatment process is one of the crucial aspects to recognize in therapy. In other words, one’s healing journey can be a non-linear process, and experiencing regression and progression is part of the process.
